Crash test dummy suit for UPC promo video

What: Making a crash test dummy suit for Dannyjevriend | Client: UPC on demand
Sabine made a crash test dummy suit for a promo movie for UPC on demand. Because of the special effects in the video, the suit had to be wearable. It was made of second-hand mannequins, which Sabine cut into pieces and then painted. A layer of black velcro was used to stick the various pieces to. This made it easy to change pieces during the shoot. Sabine made the head out of a carnival mask and designed the stickers to get that authentic crash test dummy look.

Wende Snijders

For Wende Snijders’ new theatre tour Dieuweke van Reij, Sabine, Marjolijn and Jodi mixed costumes with normal clothes around the theme of ‘black and white circus’. Alterations and accessories completed the style. To meet the theme even more, they made use of greasepaint.

This corporate brochure for web developing company Mirabeau explains their philosophy about doing business. The small-sized handy booklet is concisely written and shows various cases. It tells Mirabeau’s business partners and new costumers the short story of the company and is meant to convince them to work with Mirabeau.

Besides this, you contact stylists and post your own restyling ideas. The blog offers the latest about design pieces. As on this website it’s the products that make the statement, the design was kept clean and crisp.

Two faces, fashion styling

What: photo styling certificate | Client: Akademie Vogue
Final assignment for the photo styling certificate. The gipsy/Asian look is inspired by the movie ‘The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus’, which tells the story of an old Asian monk and a family traveling around the country like gypsies. The umbrella splits the woman’s face into two parts, thus telling a story about the good and bad side present in everyone. Besides this, it is a reference to the vibrant red hair of the girl in the movie.

Alice in Wonderland, Orkater/Holland Symfonia

What: costume design assistance for Dieuweke van Reij | Client: Orkater
Alice in Wonderland is a play by Dutch theater company Orkater in corporation with Holland Symfonia. Leopold Witte and Geert Lageveen direct the play and Dieuweke van Reij is the costume and set designer. There are four different Alices, because of the various sizes she takes in the play. Besides this, there is a huge queen and a many other characters, such as a caterpillar with a tail made of skippy balls. The challenge was to finish all the characters in time and to help Dieuweke with her experiments for the animal characters’ clothes. These had to be easy and quick to change, without damaging them. Besides this, the orchestra of fifty had to be fitted with woolen jackets. Each orchestra member got a different color in one of three models.

What: Online design together with DesignRabels | Client: Tenpages
The idea for ‘TenPages.com, Where books are born’ was realized by Valentine van der Lande. The website aims at getting books published. You can upload your own manuscript and buy stocks in other people’s manuscripts. If a book’s stocks are sold within two months, it will be published. As this website has much information to convey, the challenge was to make it easy to scan. The use of hand-drawn pictures makes the site more alive and gives it less of a business look. Manuscripts without their own cover get a colorful one from its genre. Three weeks after the launch, no less than three books had already sold their stocks in time and were on their way to publication.

Teleac ‘Helden van toen’ (heros of the past)

What: set design | Client: Teleac
This new radio program by Dutch educational broadcast company Teleac will also be video broadcast on the internet. It shows interviews with radio and TV personalities from the 60ties and 70ties. The set is a cozy living room emanating that 60ties and 70ties feeling. As the studio was only 2 by 4 meters, and with interviews every week, the set had to be easy to handle. This meant it was not possible to use real furniture. Instead, flat panels with print form the room, and a few real objects make the set more realistic. Placing the rolling panels into different positions creates different rooms.
